About Us

Formed in 2019, Greenies Piano Duo are two Hong Kong’s most exciting and versatile classical pianists: Serene Yu and Emily Chu, both graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.

Greenies Piano Duo love exploring diverse and challenging repertoire. Their aim is to present mostly programs with a strong theme in concerts. They also hope to introduce lesser-known music or rarities to audiences. With their passion for music, they will strive to achieve these goals in today’s commercial world. In 2021, they performed a range of French piano four-hand music in their sold-out debut concert. It was well-received.

Serene Yu
Serene is a passionate musician. Currently, she is establishing a diverse career in Hong Kong as a soloist, chamber musician, and pedagogue. As a soloist, she is particularly devoted to transcriptions, and music that evokes a strong sense of spirituality. Chamber music is also close to her heart. She strives to explore lesser-known chamber works with her colleagues. In 2019, she reached the semi-final stage of Queensland International Chamber Music Competition in Australia. In addition, she started performing with Greenies Piano Duo in the same year.

Apart from music grounded in traditional concepts, Serene also has a strong passion for new music. She enjoys working with like-minded musicians around the world. She has had successful collaborations with Swedish composer Jonathan Östlund and Bosnian composer Faruk Mehić. Most recently, she has been honoured to record an album with flutist Cleo Leung for Navona Records. This album, BACHannalia, will be released in March 2025 to celebrate Bach’s 340th birth anniversary.

Graduated from Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Serene’s piano teachers have included Dr Therese Milanovic and Daniel de Borah. Besides aspirations to pursue a career as classical pianist, Serene is enthusiastic about organ music. As a recipient of Walter Monz Organ Bursary 2011, she has studied with Christopher Wrench, and was appointed Church Organist at St Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Brisbane (2011-2012). Since returning to Hong Kong in late 2017, she has also enjoyed performing as organist.

Emily Chu
Emily is a dedicated performer, pedagogue, and music therapist. With a strong passion for exploring the works of lesser-known composers, such as Nikolai Medtner and Miriam Hyde, Emily brings a unique and captivating dimension to her performances as a pianist. Her commitment extends beyond solo works; she performs regularly with her chamber music partner, Serene Yu, as part of the Greenies Piano Duo.

Alongside her pursuits as a classical pianist, Emily is a compassionate music therapist and music teacher. Leveraging her expertise, she creates meaningful experiences through music, facilitating personal growth and development in children.

Graduated from Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Emily has demonstrated a profound passion for the piano since her early years. Recognized for her sensitive, imaginative, and artistic musical interpretations, Emily graced the stage regularly during her time as a student under the tutelage of Natasha Vlassenko. Throughout her performances, she has garnered consistent praise for the graceful nature of her playing and the impeccable technique she displays.
